Here is a comparison of TEN oil filters that all fit the same vehicle to find the BEST and WORST! Enjoy!
Notes:
1. I numbered these filters 1 through 10 by increasing price. These numbers are not intended to be a performance ranking.
2. To clarify my statement regarding Mobil-1: since a 20k mi guarantee is becoming common, it doesn’t really have a big stand-out feature otherwise (good or bad).
3. I would have liked to include filters from Royal Purple, Bosch, and Purolator, but ten filters were a lot to manage in a single video. These brands are also quite competitive.

I use the orange FRAM filters sometimes because I keep my oil changes between 3000 – 5000 miles, and use royal purple oil. I mostly use Mobil1 oil filters though.
The website ‘Brand Ranks’ recently did a video on some OEM filters .
As I own a Toyota RAV4 , I naturally had been using Toyota OEM filters.
Boy was I disappointed ……. Big time !
Restriction to flow was good , but filtration was awful.
Nicely settled into the Purolator Boss , great filtration and not too restrictive.
That Amsoil filter by the way , is far too restrictive.

I change oil every 3000 miles use supertech on.mu gmc truck.and fram low buck on.mu honda valvoline oil all purchased at wally world
Who cares about mileage guarantees?! Stupidity get a decent quality filter & change your oil regularly! Not 8-10k unless you do mostly highway & check your oil which mpst.people don’t…

If you change your oil when ur supposed to buy the walmart ones. The case softness has nothing to do with it’s filtering capability. 😊

as far as case thickness goes… i don’t see an issue with any of them or why a slightly thicker and heavier one is more desirable. in all my driving and that of everyone i’ve ever known, i’ve never heard of anyone suffering from a ruptured oil filter. perhaps it has happened before but, it is _extremely_ rare and was most likely due to hitting something and not just simply bursting.
I use Mobil One. But, Super Tech seems to be just as good for less than half the price.
The most important factors here seem to be microns, price, and mileage.
Both guarantee 20k miles and are 30 microns.
Personally, I’ll still change both the oil and filter every 5k miles. So, I’m really looking more into super tech.
I would love to see an actual test like Project farm. Thanks, but numbers are not everything.
Wix XP is an easy choice since I only shop at Oriellys
I use the mobile 1 filters. Used fram for years. But had issue with the gaskets leaking. Using mobil 1 never had an issue. Also use mobil 1 full synthetic 10/30. Oil stays pretty clean. Change oil every 5,000.
I switched to Purolator and can tell the difference with performance. Smoother running truck now

walmart supertech wins if you keep up with 3 to 5000 miles between oil changes IMO
How can a decent filter test be done for the best without a Purolator included, and who cares about price except those that don’t really care about their car or truck!
I have used many different brands of filters over the years except for the Fram orange can. I have never had one fail other than leaking from not being tightened enough at the garage. We can only assume that they will meet the filtering task they claim as very few videos ever test them to determine the actual micron filtering performance and contaminant capture capacity.
You need to explain the difference between conventional oil filters and synthetic oil filters
Baldwin filters are the best. No one ever talks about them. Why?

The AMSOIL filter really takes the cake when you also run it with AMSOIL engine oil. The value comes from running extended intervals.
Microguard select is the best filter across the board. And most available. Best bang for the buck. Blows wix build quality out of the water. Wix are jjnk now. Thats why napa uses premium guard to build there napa gold filters now.
the end caps dont matter for filtration. the adhesive is what creates the seal. metal end caps actually have a worse seal with adhesive then fiber or felt.
Amsoil is a ripoff
If you are changing oil every 5k or less, there is absolutely no reason to lose sleep over these ultra-nominal differences between filters. Amsoil is a gimmick.
I wish you’d include a Baldwin oil filter in your test/comparison.

I’ve used Mobil 1 filters for years and still do to this day. No issues and it does a great job. I have a 5.7 hemi so I use Pennzoil ultra platinum full synthetic with the Mobil 1 filters. Truck runs quieter and I don’t have lifter tick. I also change it every 4k miles too.

Been using mobil 1 filters for 5 or 6 years now and never had an issue. The efficiency of the Mobil 1 filter is incredible and that’s why I chose it also the flow rate is amazing to. You should actually test the filters instead of just opening them up and taking about them.

What would really make the video show would be comparing filters from say 5 years ago to 2024 filters. Hope that gives you an idea Dan. v
Just looking at filters doesn’t tell the real story. Filtration rate and flow rate are the real measure of an oil filter. 80 to 90 percent of engine wear occurs at startup. A filter that has a high filtration rate most likely has a low flow rate. Amsoil and Purolator Boss all day every day
Fun to watch,,, BUT IM A DIESEL GUY CUMMINS OIL FILTERS ALWAYS ROTELLA T6 EVERY 6-8K,,, AND I NEVER DONE ANY TYPE OF OIL ANALYSIS SEEMS TO WORK WELL. I GET TONS A MILES ON MY ENGINES
As a PRO MECHANIC, I use Walmart superTec on my basic daily drivers, but my customers get the basic O’Reilly’s Microgards. Diesel customers get the Wix. I will never use K&N, Fram, or Mobil 1 ever again.
You talked about filtration but nothing about flow which is important especially in very cold weather!
I use the gold fram every oil change. Never ever had any problems with it. Its an awesome filter. Sometimes i use the blue synthetic endurance one they make also and that one is really good too. Idk why people hate fram so much. They make good filters
Who in their right mind is doing 15k+ oil service intervals? Oil filters are cheaper than overhauling an engine.

What about doing a test of auxiliary filter test for ultimate oil filtration ??? They filter down to like 1 to 3 microns for ultimate cleaning of oil !!! 😀😀😀😀😀
Every single filter here will work perfectly fine in any 5,000-7,500 interval.
