  1. Great video. Definitely coming back to it if I need to replace my alternator ! Thank you for putting this together 🙂

  2. Im so stuck on removing the main cable on my w220’s alternator. Im seeing everyone just easily popping it off and for some reason im having the hardest time in the world trying to get it off

  3. Chris you don’t have everything still hooked up the battery do you? Everyone told me to hook my stuff up to a fuse that way it doesn’t kill my battery every night

  4. You forgot to list the name of the tools 🧰 that u use to change the alternator in the description, that would be very useful

  5. I bet I could do this job EXACTLY as you instructed and my car would explode upon startup. Just my luck 😅

  6. That’s about the same problem out of my Ford Ranger. But my truck lost power completely and caused my engine to sputter out. But my battery light came on and my voltage just dropped out of nowhere. So I’m guessing that it’s probably an alternator.

  7. I sure wouldn’t know how to change my battery or my alternator. The battery is tucked way in the back of the hood and the alternator is buried down near the bottom of the engine!

  8. OMG wish I can do that myself auto shop they charge tons of money !!! I’m a senior living on limited income .

  9. Please test old part before replacing so we know what to look out for on a bad part. Thank you. Great video🎉

  10. If your car makes a screeching noise when the engine is on its usually also the alternators ball-bearings, if you want to make sure then cup your hands around a metal rod and place it on the alternator with one end and the other end with your hand against your ear, easy tip to figure out which bearing is screeching

  11. Dude its crazy i had to do this fix on my 07 ranger and the engine components are set up in almost the exact same way as this mazda truck. Same arrangement of the belt and pullys, tensioner bolt was 15mm. Same alternator mounting and the position of many other components too.

  12. I’m a face to face learner. My mind is just in decay mode looking at all those connections you had to take apart🤣

  13. Hi Chris, im from New Zealand and a newbie in servicing my own car. I have a 2013 Holden Cruze 1.8L automatic. I noticed that im hearing squeaking sound when the engine is at gear 4 and 5, i know because i switch to manual shift when i hear the squeaking. But squeaking occur only when im driving in inclined road at gear 5. When it started squeaking, i press the gas pedal to switch the gear to 4 and squeeking will go off. Same thing happens when im in gear 4. What would be the cause of that squeaking sound? When i search it in google, almost all answers are pinting to the alternator. I also check the belt tension and it’s tight. Hope you can give me some advise on what else to check. Thanks.

  14. When changing electrical parts does it really matter rather you take the negative post off or can you take the positive post off

  15. I’M FOLLOWING YOU LONG TIME AGO. I’M TAKING AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY CLASSES AND MY PROFESSOR SHOW US SOME VIDEOS IN CLASS I LIKE THE WAY YOU EXPLAIN EVERYTHING.

  16. I have a mechanic who was replacing my alternator, he claims that I ruined all of his work by putting my foot on the accelerator after he “successfully”got my new alternator around the belt. I literally started my car gave it gas and he says my belt popped bc of that, ive never had this problem with my car if anyone can tell me if it was actually me or did he never have the belt in place?

  17. Scrolled past the thumbnail thinking it was a new upload for the turbo in the desol😭😭 I was so excited for a second.

  18. You are a good-great Teacher! Teaching something new, I’ve never heard before. You work to excel. Admirable

  19. as much as this video helped me a ton. my alternator bolt put me in a hard stop until i can get it out 😢

  20. If the engine is not running, why would there be coolant in the hose? Wouldn’t the coolant be sitting in the radiator?

  21. Holy shit. I have an Volvo v50 with a bad alternator. Went to the scrapyard today and found one. Think I’m gonna try replacing it myself tomorrow. The mechanic here said 300’ish dollars for just the job so hopefully I manage and save those for another job. With old cars it’s always something that needs fixing, and I’m really starting to enjoy doing the work and learning new things. You have saved me so much money, thank you!

  22. OMG – what an INCREDIBLY EASY PART TO ACCESS! I worked on my 2009 Range Rover Sport HSE alternator back in mid-July. What a nightmare! It was located mid-engine – making it split decision to access it from the top or bottom. I chose the bottom which made it impossible to see past the driver side of the part. I had to work blindly, using my fingers to "see" as I disconnected the main power cable and top horizontal bolt. Since my LR3 is 15 years old, separating the wire harness connector took 20 minutes of prying and colorful expletives due to lack of accessibility. I also managed to gash my right forearm on a piece of metal sticking out of the inside of the front bumper. If this is a hazard guys, I highly recommend covering this over with duct tape before you attempt this repair. Sadly, the brand new alternator rated at 150 amps began failing last week, and after working a 12-hour shift it rapidly began discharging my battery to the point my electrical went black. When alternators fail, often times they become an electrical short and completely drain your battery.

  23. In this type of situation, would it be worth 1st trying to sandpaper it down for a better connection before buying a new alternator?

  24. Greetings,
I’ve been watching your videos for many years now. I have learned so many fixes from you. Keep up the good work.
Question; when I use the key to open the door the alarm goes off, the alarm will stop when I insert the key in to the ignition. after that I have no issues with the car alarm.
I only have the valet key. Please help with my 2015 Buick encore.

Thank you so much for all your videos.
