  1. People ask why I would want to switch to the lightweight flywheel. Honestly the main reason is that the lightweight flywheel with a new clutch and complete install kit for cheaper than the price of a new dual mass flywheel(dmf). Also because the dmf cant be resurfaced, but the aftermarket flywheel has a replaceable friction plate.

  2. I want to know if anyone has designed a flywheel with a heavyweight part that disengages beyond a certain rpm, so the outer rim declutches and leaves you with a lightweight center for revs above about 2000 and then comes back in, so you get punchy performance for spirited driving, but smooth pulling away and low idle. Some sort of centrifugal device might work, but with brake shoes on a one end of a weighted pivot so they tuck into the center flywheel at high rpm, and are pushed to grip the outer rim by a spring at low rpm. You won’t need much clamping force either, as all you are doing is holding a free spinning outer rim, especially if you put the starter teeth on a lightweight extension to the inner piece.

  3. Got a single mass flywheel + sprung clutch from PTB Racing on my E46 330Ci 6-Speed. I really wouldn’t recommend it unless it is used as a track tool. The noise at idle I don’t really care about. But at lower speeds (anything under 60kmh) you get A LOT of noise. And I really mean it. It’s really loud if you give it too much gas. Maybe the 5-Speed can take it better.

  4. So the gears and everything in a car should be the same as a motorcycle scooter because I believe a motorcycle scooter is in between a car and a bike so that lease to be saying do you think I should get a fly wheel lightener for my bike or no ?

  5. Just did a ground up restoration on my M3 put in a lightweight flywheel and like you first time dropping tranny boy that was fun rebuilt rear end also even more fun , but I was about to drop my tranny because I thought the flywheel chatter was I installed the pilot bearing wrong or the throw out thanks to your video I know now it’s just lightweight flywheel chatter thankyou so much and yeah night and day difference from duel mass flywheel

  6. It’s so strange, I’ve only recently started watching your guy’s videos (car reviews) and seeing just you is odd! Good sht guys

  7. I know this is old but I installed a bigger flywheel in my ford ranger manual 97’ from my lighter stock fly wheel and got way more acceleration and power. I’m just saying.

  8. I bought my NC2 Miata used, and it sounds just like this on idle. It does remind me of a "diesel" engine sound for a second, but it is not as loud. This is the fastest revving NC I have ever driven, and now I wonder if the only previous owner installed a lightened flywheel. I was wondering if he had tuned it or something. I will get a lightened fly wheel when the clutch goes. Then i will know if the previous owner did this mod or not. In the meantime, a set of light wheels will make things better.

  9. My E36 M3 shifts as fast as what you showed on your screen and is crazy fast. While you covered the pluses of the lightweight but ignored all the negatives. No longer enjoy the vibration free BMW famous silky smoothness at park state and first gear take off. The dual mass also cancels out frequencies to add to the quiet feel. My car is obscene fast as is, but if I wanted to add horsepower, I would not do it at the expense of what I listed. There are other ways, M50 intake, bolt on Turbo etc. The diesel sound would also completely turn me off.

  10. Light weight flywheels are for racing applications, when the engine constantly has high load on it. Using such a flywheel for street driving will kill your drive train alot faster. The engineers know what they are doing.

  11. I just ordered an aluminum flywheel 12lbs to replace the 36lbs dual mass which is broken at this time but man your flywheel in this video seems slow idk, like slower than my dual mass 🙂

  12. I know you’re me hotshot with cars now but I appreciate you keeping this content for us🙏🏽🥹

  13. honestly the flywheel chatter is not as bad as what people make em seem to be. you hardly hear it unless your driving around in a in silence with a stock exhaust

  14. My new lightweight flywheel seems to be throwing a check engine light for misfires… is this possible and should I just bite the bullet and put a NEW steel flywheel on and take my NEW aluminum flywheel off and throw it at McLeod for not telling me this could happen… seems to be no solution I can find. I have a 17 mustang gt and bought the McLeod RXT clutch with aluminum flywheel.

  15. Flywheels have a purpose and a specific design range bases on the engine, configuration and number of cylinders. If you step out of the design range the gains are completely erased by the losses. Many times the seemingly faster reving is offsett by undesirable rev drop. The reduced momentum of a light weight makes the drive harsh, increases harmonic vibrations and impact spikes, resulting on reduced life of the drive line.

  16. this is so cool, I watch throttle house almost daily I didn’t even realize this was the channel when I clicked this video (“wow that really sounds like thomas—-woW THAT REALLY LOOKS LIKE THOM—ah”)

So cool to see how far things have come while also learning about flywheels

  17. I was looking up reviews for this specific flywheel and this is the only video I saw, then I was SHOCKED to see it was from throttle house! Right on!

  18. I went back to dual mass and couldnt be happier. The vibration, chatter toward transmission and dryness was just horrible. Performance wise its absolutely same.i measured it with dragy

  19. I totally rebuilt an Audi B6 3.0 convertible. I did a cvt to manual and FWD to Quattro conversion using a JHM lightweight chromoly flywheel mated to a O1E 6 speed tranny. It goes without saying that it is now a completely different car going from a comfortable smooth touring soft top to a real sports car. I obviously can’t judge my car on a simple dual mass to a single mass after such a drivetrain makeover but after watching this video I am glad I did not go for a dual mass.

  20. Excellent video man thanks very informative and I think your right i was looking to buy a single mass to convert from duel mass for my 520 diesel E60 and I think the trade off sound well worth it because I just fitted an lsd and I need to replace the flywheel !!

  21. I was researching lightweight flywheels and I thought this dude looks and sounds like the Throttle House guy, is he trying to imitate him? Then minimized the video and had my answer 😅

  22. My car has a Single Mass flywheel. Is the difference still the same? I mean it Drops 60-70% of the weight
